Why Use Firefox?
Firefox is an Open Source web browser that makes surfing more fun, safe, and efficient.
If you live under a rock or are relatively new to the web, maybe you haven’t used Firefox, but now, you have no excuse.
What is Firefox and Why Should I Care?
The simple answer: ?Just the greatest web browser ever, gosh!?
A less Napoleon Dynamite answer:
Firefox is an Open Source web browser that is developed and maintained by the Mozilla Foundation and a large, enthusiastic community of volunteer developers and users.
People love Firefox because of its speed, ease-of-use, tabbed browsing, and terrific security features like pop-up blocking, and protection from spyware, worms and viruses.
Web designers also love Firefox because it?s very standards-compliant, meaning that the Firefox browser complies with web standards proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium. This makes it easier to design for, and requires fewer ‘hacks’ in order to make sites look as intended.
Here are just a few of my favorite features of Firefox:
- Tabbed browsing allows you to surf multiple sites within the same browser without opening multiple browser windows. This keeps my desktop clean and allows me to quickly switch between multiple sites. Great for ADD!
- It’s available for Windows, Mac, and Linux and it behaves the same under each platform. If you use more than one OS, as I do, you can use the same browser on all your PCs.
- Extensions and Add-ons add wonderful functionality to the browser. They can change the look and feel of the browser, or add cool functionality to make it easier to do the things you do on the Web. These are contributed free of charge by an active community of developers.
- The Web Developer Toolbar is an awesome resource for web designers and developers. There are so many things to love about this extension that it deserves multiple posts (to follow).
- Firefox is Free!
So, what are you waiting for? Download Firefox – you won’t be sorry.
