Ditto WSDAA. I saw Eric at the a local web design group last Tuesday – he said he was really busy. . .and since he still doesn’t have a tan, I assume that he’s hunched over his keyboard day and night.

You are correct. Apparently, categories without any posts cannot be published and will not show up outside of the admin panel.
A post needs to be created first, and then assigned a category.
BUT, the post has to be published first and there is an intervening step that asks which category to assign it to. At that time the new category can be selected and then published. That there is what I call an intuitive failure.

Rich, I haven’t run into this, but I honestly haven’t added a lot of categories to a fresh 2.7.1 WP install. My first thought was that if the category had zero posts, it may not show in the sidebar or theme, but you seem to be referring to it showing in the admin panel, correct?

Switching back the WordPress Default theme didn’t make any difference.

Has anyone else had problems adding categories with 2.7.1 or earlier?

I’m not familiar with the theme, but it’s certainly possible that it’s not playing nice with WordPress 2.7 depending on how it’s coded.

Got it installed for a friend today and tried to add some categories but couldn’t.
I’m using a “theme” call gravel. . . could that be the problem?

It’s taking some time to get use to, but I like it better than older versions.
