I think in my case, it was a matter of the software being so simple that I tried to make it harder than it was. Once I discovered I could hit alt+space, then right-click on Launchy to get to config options, I poked around, made a few changes and was off and 'launching.' I know what you mean. It took me awhile to get it to find everything for me. I think you need to be specific about which folders to tell it to index, but maybe I was just being impatient.
